Construction mishap will not affect Waterview development in Rosslyn

A construction accident at the Waterview development in Rosslyn that left 16 workers and one firefighter injured on Dec. 8 will not delay the delivery date or sales of the high-end mixed-use project, said officials with developer the JBG Companies Monday.

The timeline of the multi-million dollar project — which includes two towers with 131 condos, a 154-room hotel and 623,000 square feet of office space and 10,000 square feet of retail space — was called into question when a freshly laid slab of concrete collapsed on the 23rd floor of the office building portion of the project, trapping several construction workers for hours. But construction was up and running the following Monday, leaving the timeline intact. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2007.

The 24-floor office building was already leased to the Corporate Executive Board, said a spokesman for Bethesda-based JBG, and the condos will go on sale in January as planned.

The high-profile project is part of the continuing redevelopment of Rosslyn. The project has received attention for the partnership between JBG and San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels which will own the complex’s Palomar Hotel. One of the features condo owners get when they buy into the development is the ability to take advantage of The Palomar’s amenities. The Ritz-Carlton is the only other hospitality company in the Washington region that offers hotel-style living. Representatives for both JBG and Kimpton said they are not concerned that the accident might hurt sales of the condos, which run from $400,00 to more than $5 million.

“We are of course concerned about the [workers] and we remained concerned abut the [workers],” said Holly Houston, a spokeswoman for Kimpton. “That was an awful accident, but so far for the hotel, the timeline has not changed.”
