D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier on Sunday morning ordered a Petworth restaurant to stay closed after a stabbing there the day before.
Police had closed the Island Cafe, located at 829 Upshur Street NW, on Saturday after a fight between two men broke out at 2 a.m. One of the men was stabbed in the stomach, according to police, who were unaware of his condition.
Lanier’s order shutters the restaurant for up to 96 hours while the D.C. Alcoholic Beverage Control Board reviews the incident.
WJLA reports that the Island Cafe was shut down once before in 2008, when a man was shot at the restaurant.
Police could not confirm the 2008 incident, and calls to the liquor control board were not returned.
