A Montgomery County teen was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning while walking to a school bus stop on International Walk to School Day, according to police.
A vehicle traveling eastbound on the 1600 block of E. Randolph Road in Silver Spring jumped the curb at about 6:20 a.m. and struck a 16-year-old girl walking on the sidewalk, according to Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks.
An 18-year-old boy also walking to the school bus stop was injured as well. Police are investigating if he was struck by the vehicle or injured trying to get out of the way, Starks said.
Both teens, who were on their way to Springbrook High School in Silver Spring, were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Family members were notified and were at the scene of the incident Wednesday morning.
Police are investigating what caused the driver, a woman who suffered minor injuries, to lose control of the car, Starks said.
