P.G. deputy shoots man dead in Riverdale
Authorities have identified the man fatally shot by a Prince George’s County sheriff’s deputy as 39-year-old Franklin H. Sweeney Jr.
About 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the deputy went to a home on the 6300 block of 63rd Avenue in Riverdale to serve a temporary peace order. After the deputy was let in the home, a man appeared from the rear of the residence and displayed what appeared to be a handgun.
The deputy shot the man, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, according to media reports.
The weapon Sweeney was holding turned out to be a replica handgun.
The deputy, identified as Paul Perriello, was placed on administrative leave.
Shooting during FBI raid under investigation
Shots were fired while an FBI SWAT team was serving a search warrant in Prince George’s County, officials said.
The incident occurred at a home on the 6700 block of Kipling Parkway in District Heights between 6 and 6:30 a.m. Thursday. A SWAT team with the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office was serving a warrant in a criminal case being handled by the Washington Field Office.
No one was shot, but an adult female occupant of the home was taken to a hospital and has since been released. The woman sustained a superficial wound, and medical staff at the hospital believe that the woman might have been injured during a fall during the incident, an FBI spokeswoman said.
Authorities continue to investigate.
