A 13-year-old Laurel boy shot another student with a BB gun at a bus stop Tuesday morning, then took that weapon and a large knife to his Anne Arundel County middle school.
Anne Arundel County police and MacArthur Middle School security officials searched all students on a bus arriving at the Fort Meade school Tuesday morning after an unnamed parent called an assistant principal to report what appeared to be a BB gun tucked in a student’s waist band at a bus stop, according to police spokesman Justin Mulcahy.
Officials found the BB gun, which the boy turned over to school administrators, and in a further search of his belongings found a seven-inch blade in the boy’s backpack, police said.
An investigation determined that the boy shot another 13-year-old male student in the leg at the bus stop earlier Tuesday morning, before the gun was spotted by a parent.
The boy who was shot did not require medical attention, according to police.
The Laurel boy was charged on a juvenile citation with posessing a dangerous weapon on school property, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He was released to his parent or guardian later Tuesday, police said.
