More people have been killed in Prince George’s County so far this year than in all of 2010, with homicides on pace to reach the county’s highest number of killings since 2008. The county has seen more than 90 homicides in 2011, eclipsing the 90 killed last year. County police report 89 homicides to date, but those figures don’t include killings handled by municipal police, such as the murder of Bowie State University student Dominique Frazier and the slaying of Laurel resident Brandice Jones, both which occurred in August.
Among the most recent slayings were two homicides that occurred on the same block in Oxon Hill over the span of two nights.
Police found 20-year-old Jakari Butler on the 1000 block of Marcy Avenue on Friday afternoon suffering from a stab wound in the upper body. Butler was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
On Saturday evening, 29-year-old Kaya Dejuna Wilson was shot to death inside her apartment on the same block of Marcy Avenue. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
