Clarksburg man dies after being pepper-sprayed by police

A Clarksburg man died after Montgomery County police pepper-sprayed him, police said.

About 4:45 p.m. Monday, officers went to a residence in the 23400 block of Tailor Shop Place in Clarksburg. Police were told that a resident, 39-year-old Nathan Jones, had threatened two of his roommates with weapons.

Officers determined that an assault had taken place and tried to arrest Jones, but he became violent and resisted. Police used pepper spray to gain control of him, Montgomery County police said. Fire/Rescue personnel then came to the scene, treated Jones for his exposure to the spray and left.

A short time later, officers noticed that Jones was losing consciousness. Fire/Rescue personnel took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are investigating Jones’ death. A police spokeswoman said she did not know his cause of death.
