Police: Baltimore Co. officer fires at driver

CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) — Baltimore County police say an officer attempting to question a driver about a stolen vehicle fired at the man when he fled the scene and nearly struck the officer.

Police say the driver was found later Wednesday lying on the ground near the vehicle in a parking lot at Catonsville High School, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Police say charges are pending against the unidentified driver, who was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman said he was in serious condition Wednesday night.

The identity of the officer was not released.

Police say students and staff at the school were never in danger.
