FBI searches for D.C. Wells Fargo robber

The FBI is on the trail of a bank robber who appears to think he’s one of the feds. Authorities believe one man is responsible for one recent bank heist and another attempted robbery in Northwest D.C. – and in the latter, the suspect was caught on surveillance video sporting an “FBI” cap.

The first robbery happened on Sept. 30 at about 1:45 p.m. at the Wells Fargo branch at 1804 Adams Mill Road NW. The second incident took place at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 7, at another Wells Fargo, at 1100 Connecticut Ave. NW.

He obtained money in the first robbery, but did not in the second, according to the FBI. The agency didn’t say how much cash he got away with in the Sept. 30 incident.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man who is 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He has a medium build.

In the September incident, he was wearing black pants with a white stripe, a black shirt and a black hat that had a red and blue logo. In the October robbery attempt, he was wearing a dark hat that read “FBI.”

Tipsters are eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.

Anyone with information is asked to call D.C. police at (202) 727-6171 or (202) 489-8788, or the FBI at (202) 278-2000.
