Man sentenced for traveling to have sex with minor
A man was sentenced to seven years in prison for traveling from Maryland to the District to have sex with a 14-year-old girl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Kenneth Michael Drew, 42, pleaded guilty in federal court in D.C. to traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct with a minor in February, according to a court document. In November, Drew met the teenager on Facebook while he represented himself as a 19-year-old. They chatted for a month on the social networking website, officials said, and the girl gave Drew her name, address, school name and other identifying information. When Drew went to the girl’s house, she refused to have sex with him. Drew threatened to distribute nude photos of the victim to her school and family unless she let him have sex with her.
Man convicted in 2001 P.G. killing
A man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2001 slaying of another man in Upper Marlboro. A jury found Billy Joe Simon guilty of fatally shooting Michael Anthony Neal in Neal’s townhouse in June 2001, according to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. Simon was arrested last year after DNA evidence found at the crime scene was matched to him, authorities said. Simon and Neal knew each other through the drug trade, prosecutors said.
Naked man along G.W. Parkway will have mental evaluation
A naked man was found walking along the George Washington Memorial Parkway on Monday morning, police said. The man was seen about 6 a.m. between the Arlington Memorial Bridge and Theodore Roosevelt Island. He was taken to a hospital for mental observation, U.S. Park Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Brooks said. The man was not charged, Brooks said.
