D.C. man convicted of killing relative
A D.C. man was found guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder while armed and three weapons felonies.
Charles Coates, 43, is expected to be sentenced between 13 and 46 years in prison, according to sentencing guidelines, prosecutors said.
Federal prosecutors in D.C. say Coates shot and killed the Eddie Leonard, 32, over money. Leonard, the son of Coates’ first cousin, was lured to an alley on Feb. 20, 2011, where he was shot in the head with a .380-caliber handgun.
Husband of woman killed by Culpeper police officer found dead
The husband of a woman who was allegedly murdered by a then-Culpeper police officer has been found dead, police said.
Virginia State Police are investigating the death of Gary D. Cook, 62, although foul play does not seem to be a factor.
Cook’s body was discovered Tuesday morning by a maintenance crew that had entered an apartment on the 1000 block of Friendship Way to conduct routine maintenance service, police said.
Cook’s wife, Patricia Cook, was fatally shot by Daniel Harmon-Wright on Feb. 9, while Harmon-Wright was on duty. Harmon-Wright has been charged with murder and other crimes in connection with the incident.
Gary Cook had filed a multimillion wrongful-death lawsuit against Harmon-Wright.
