Prosecutors are attempting to seize $230,000 in proceeds from the illegal gambling shop, housed at 817 Sixth St. NW, above a tiny delicatessen that specializes in authentic Chinese noodles and rice noodle rolls.

On the second floor, the room had three touch-screen gaming machines and six tables for mah-jongg, a game of chance that originated in China and is played with a set of dominolike tiles, documents say.

Kidnapping went wrong

A reported kidnapping on the streets of Bethesda on Thursday afternoon turned out to be nothing more than a bachelor party prank.

Witnesses reported two men grabbing another man outside of the Sport and Health Club at 4400 Montgomery Avenue shortly after 1 p.m., according to authorities.

But officers discovered the kidnapping was a part of a bachelor party prank — the groom was taken to a party, and no one was taken anywhere they didn’t want to go, according to Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks. No one was charged in the prank.
