Man with gun at National Cathedral grounds

D.C. police took two people into custody after a person brought what appeared to be a rifle onto the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral.

Administrators locked down preparatory schools St. Albans School for boys, the National Cathedral School for girls — both grades 4 through 12 — around 8 a.m. after a person reported that a man with a rifle in a vehicle on campus, said D.C. spokesman Lt. Nicholas Breul. Police found the vehicle with what appeared to be a “long gun” inside, Breul said. He didn’t know if it was real, a BB gun or a toy. Police were getting a warrant to search the car. The campus was reopened about 45 minutes later.

The Washington National Cathedral is home to three schools: St. Albans School and National Cathedral School have nearly 600 students each. The co-ed Beauvoir School for pre-K to third grade students has about 380 children.
