Suspicious letter at Commerce building

Hazmat and bomb squads are investigating a suspicious package at the Department of Commerce building in downtown D.C.

Police got a call shortly after 1 p.m. for a suspicious letter at the Herbert C. Hoover Building at 1401 Constitution Ave. NW. The letter contained powder but was not believed to be a threat or a hazard, law enforcement officials said.

Officers have closed off 14th Street between Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenue NW, and are urging travelers to avoid the area.
