Woman killed in Chevy Chase crash

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Montgomery County on Tuesday, police said.

About 11:40 a.m., police were called to southbound Connecticut Avenue near Irving Street, just north of the Maryland-District border. A passenger vehicle left the roadway on the right-hand side and struck a tree, police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said.

A woman who was a passenger died, and the driver was taken to a hospital. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Man accused of stabbing mom

A 21-year-old man accused of stabbing his mother in Anne Arundel County was taken into custody Tuesday, officials said.

Officers arrested James Arthur Zito about 11:15 a.m. in the area of the Glen Burnie Mall. He was then taken to a hospital for treatment, according to Anne Arundel County police.

About 7:30 p.m. Monday, officers went to the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way in Millersville and found a 54-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant that charges Zito with first-degree assault.

One dead, 3 injured in D.C.

One person was killed and three others were injured in three separate shootings occurring within minutes of each other in the District on Monday night, D.C. police said.

About 11:45 p.m., Jerry Williams, 22, was fatally shot in the 4700 block of Brooks Street NE.

About 25 minutes earlier, two males ages 19 and 15, were shot in the leg, in a drive-by shooting, police said.

At about 11:30 p.m., in the 2700 block of Naylor Road SE, six young people were approached by 10 other young people on bicycles. One person in the second group tried to rob a 16-year-old boy and shot him, police said.
