UMd student who threatened violence ruled competent to stand trial

A University of Maryland student who allegedly threatened to go on a shooting ramage has been ruled competent to stand trial.

The Washington Times reported that Alexander Song, 19, told a judge in Prince George’s County Mental Health Court that he felt “much better” than he did when he was in the hospital following his arrest in March.

Investigators have said they believe Song posted comments last month that stated “I will be on a shooting rampage tomorrow on campus,” “hopefully I kill enough people to make it to national news” and “stay away from the Mall tomorrow at 1:30.”

He was charged with violating the Education Article, misuse of electronic mail, making a false statement, making a false statement ot a public official, misuse of telephone facilities and equipment, and disturbing the peace, according to University of Maryland police.

Song is barred from campusand could be arrested if he returns without permission, police said.
