Alleged robber who burned self to death is ID’d
The Prince George’s County medical examiner’s office has identified a taxi passenger who allegedly burned to death after attempting to rob the cab driver.
The suspect was 30-year-old Jacqueline Renee Savoy, of Lothian, Md., Prince George’s County police said.
About 5 p.m. Friday, a taxi driver picked up Savoy from the Largo Metro station and took her to the 4200 block of Northview Drive in Bowie. Savoy demanded the driver’s money while holding combustible material. The material ignited and she caught fire, police spokesman Officer Edward Martin said.
The cab driver jumped out of the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.
Fairfax police probe sex assaults
Fairfax County police are investigating two sexual assaults that took place Sunday.
Police spokesman Officer Bud Walker said the incidents were unrelated.
Between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., a 5-year-old girl was playing at a playground in the area of Lachine Lane and Manitoba Drive in the Lincolnia area when a man took her to a nearby building’s basement and sexually assaulted her, police said.
A few hours later, a 19-year-old woman was attacked in the 7600 block of Lee Highway in the Merrifield area.
The woman was walking along Lee Highway at about 11 p.m. Sunday when a man approached her, displayed a knife, forced her into nearby brush and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Road crew finds decomposed body
Virginia State Police are investigating skeletal remains in Alexandria.
The badly decomposed body was found by construction workers Monday in the cloverleaf area of the ramp from Interstate 395 to Duke Street.
No identification was found on the remains and police could not determine whether the body was male or female.
Police said the body was found in a heavily wooded area previously occupied by homeless people.
