Pedestrian fatally struck on D.C. sidewalk
A vehicle went up on a sidewalk in downtown Washington on Monday morning and killed a Marymount University professor.
The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. Monday on Sixth Street Northwest near the Judiciary Square Metro station. The driver lost control, and the vehicle went onto a sidewalk and struck a man, police spokesman Officer Anthony Clay said.
Officials at Marymount University in Arlington confirmed that Rhett Leverett, a history professor who had worked at the university since 1991, was killed in the incident.
The crash is under investigation.
Police arrest juvenile in Riverdale robbery
Prince George’s County police have made an arrest in connecton with a robbery in Riverdale.
A man leaving a restaurant on the 6000 block of Riverdale Road was approached by three suspects asking for a cigarette. After the victim offered them one, one of the suspects hit him in the face, knocking him down, according to police.
The victim was able to run away, but the suspects took his cellphone and wallet that he dropped on the sidewalk when he was struck.
Police arrested one suspect on Monday, a juvenile.
