Student groped in Alexandria
A Northern Virginia Community College student reported being sexually assaulted, and a suspect has been arrested, school officials said. The incident took place at about 2 p.m. Monday in a stairwell in the Dawes garage on the college’s Alexandria campus. The victim told college police that she was walking to her vehicle when a man came behind her and groped her, officials said. On Monday night, college police saw a man matching the suspect’s description on the Alexandria campus and arrested him. The suspect, 21-year-old Brandon T. Veney, is not a NOVA student, officials said. He was charged with sexual battery and assault on a law enforcement officer, according to a spokeswoman with the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office.
D.C. murder suspect arrested in Georgia
A man has been arrested for a fatal shooting in Northeast D.C., police said. Sean Carter, 22, was arrested on Oct. 3 in Fulton County, Ga. On Monday, he was extradited to the District, where he was arrested on charges of first-degree murder while armed in the death of 22-year-old Bidley Warren, according to D.C. police. On Aug. 23, police went to the 1000 block of Rhode Island Avenue NE and found Warren, of Northeast D.C., unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
