Police are keeping a heavy presence at Woodrow Wilson High School all day Thursday after officials were notified of a possible threat against the school.
A non-descript threat on a blog was made against a Woodrow Wilson High School, though it wasn’t clear if it was for the Wilson High in the District, located at 3950 Chesapeake St. NW, according to Principal Pete Cahall, who was alerted about the threat Wednesday evening.
Cahall immediately notified police, who are now keeping extra officers at Wilson for the day, particularly when classes let out this afternoon, Cahall wrote in an email to the school’s Parent Teacher Student Association.
A K9 unit made a sweep of the school before students arrived this morning — likely searching for explosives, according to police spokeswoman Tisha Gant — but nothing was found.
With the school on “Code Blue” for the entire day, teachers will restrict student movement in hallways throughout the day, and students won’t be allowed to get lunch off campus, according to Cahall’s email. All students with free periods aren’t allowed to leave the building, and instead are being directed to the library and media center. All field trips are canceled.
Officials will determine whether after-school activities are canceled later in the day, Cahall wrote.
Any parent wishing to take their child out of school for the day must come and do so in person.
