Falls Church Police Chief Harry Reitze has announced that he is retiring, effective Nov. 11.
Reitze was appointed police chief in May 2007. He started with the city’s police department in 1975 as a patrol officer, officials said, and he worked his way up the ranks and received a number of recognitions and awards over the course of his career.
“Harry has been a strong leader for the police department and the city as a whole,” Falls Church City Manager Wyatt Shields said in a news release. “He has fostered a culture in which the men and women who serve in the department want to be the best, period. We see the results of that with what our police officers are able to accomplish everyday for the community.”
Officials said that there will be an orderly process to appoint Reitze’s successor.
