Army worker sentenced to 6 years
Former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee Michael A. Alexander was sentenced to six years in prison for taking more than $1.25 million in bribes.
Alexander, 56, formerly of Woodbridge, is one of 11 people who have pleaded guilty in the $30 million bribery and kickback scheme. Prosecutors have called it the largest domestic bribery and bid-rigging in the history of federal contracting.
At the time of Alexander’s arrest, the conspirators were planning to steer a $1 billion federal contract to themselves, prosecutors said.
Alexander is the first defendant to be sentenced in the case.
Two teens arrested in home invasion, stabbing
Two male suspected in a burglary and stabbing in Woodbridge have been arrested, police said.
Marquis Oladiene Harrell and Grayling Elton Kennedy, both 18, were arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, robbery and burglary, according to Prince William County police.
The incident happened shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday on the 3700 block of Del Mar Drive. Harrell and Kennedy forced their way inside a 69-year-old man’s home, Harrell stabbed the man with a knife, and both suspects fled in the victim’s car, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with severe injuries, and he was still being treated on Thursday.
Skimming device found on hospital ATM
Police believe that thousands of dollars have been stolen from people who used an ATM at the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
A skimmer was removed from the ATM machine in the lobby near the gift shop, Fairfax County police said. The device, which was copying people’s ATM card numbers, was spotted by a customer.
Police believe that the skimming device was attached to the ATM in late August.
Police are urging people who used the ATM to check their bank statements closely.
