Snow job
At least one enterprising Virginian has not let the snow get him down: Fairfax County police have warned the public to lock their doors when shoveling because a thief has been helping himself to credit cards while homeowners were out in the snow.
In two separate incidents over a month, women reported having their credit cards swiped while they were out doing yard work or shoveling snow. Both women had left their homes unlocked.
The thief later wracked up charges at area shopping centers. Police are describing the man as about 6 foot 1, black and weighing about 200 pounds.
Holiday heist
Montgomery County detectives are asking for the public’s help in finding the man who held up an armored car in Aspen Hill just two days before Christmas.
The man snuck up behind a Dunbar armored truck driver outside a Wachovia Bank, brandishing a shotgun. He ran off with an “undisclosed amount of cash.”
The victim described the robber as a black man, in his late 20s or possibly 30 years, between 6 feet and 6-foot-3 inches tall, heavily built and sporting a goatee.
Anyone with information is asked to call robbery detectives at 240-773-5100.
Robber in black and white
Authorities in Montgomery County are also on the lookout for a man who they say robbed the Comfort Inn hotel in Rockville last week.
Detectives say the man, wearing a black zip-up hooded sweatshirts, white pants and white socks, walked into the hotel lobby early Wednesday, suggested that he was carrying a weapon and made off with cash.
Witnesses described the robber as a dark-skinned African-American man, between 25 and 30 years, around 6 feet tall and weighing between 190 and 220 pounds.
Body identified
Baltimore County police believe they’ve identified the elderly man who was found dead in his car outside his Pikesville Country Club last Thursday.
Irving Hurwitz, 78, had been reported missing by his family. Authorities found him slumped inside his car, which was parked at the Woodholme County Club.
Authorities do not suspect foul play, but have scheduled an autopsy.
