Chesapeake inmate pleads guilty to escape

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — A Chesapeake inmate faces more time behind bars after pleading guilty to an escape charge.

Clancy Starling spent more than a week on the run after he escaped from the Chesapeake Correctional Center on June 11.

Media outlets report that Starling pleaded guilty Monday to felony escape.

Starling is serving a 17-year sentence for a probation violation and grand larceny. He faces another year on the escape conviction.

The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office fired two deputies following Starling’s escape. Four other inmates are charged with helping him flee the jail.
