A Lorton man who was seen fishing in a kayak in Pohick Bay drowned, police said.
About 3:30 p.m. Monday, 58-year-old John R. Funk was in a boat that capsized about 100 yards from shore. Although witnesses saw Funk swimming to shore, yelled to him and ran to get help, he quickly disappeared under the water, Fairfax County police said.
Funk was not wearing a life jacket, officials said, and there wasn’t one in the kayak.
