Wheaton homicide suspect attempts suicide in Miami

A Montgomery County man wanted for the murder of a Wheaton woman has survived a nine-story fall and is in custody in Miami, according to police.

Martire Puente-Fulcar, 31, was picked up by the Miami Police Department after an apparent suicide attempt. Puente-Fulcar jumped from the roof of the nine-story Versailles Hotel at approximately 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to a preliminary police investigation, and remained in critical condition Wednesday at an undisclosed hospital.

Puente-Fulcar was wanted for first-degree murder in the slaying of 37-year-old Rocio Nikaury Morcelo, whom police found dead in the stairwell of her Wheaton apartment building on Saturday morning. The two reportedly lived in the apartment together with Morcelo’s three children.

Police will wait for the hospital to clear Puente-Fulcar before making extradition arrangements to return him to Montgomery County.
