For the third time in a week, customs officers at Washington Dulles International Airport seized cocaine packages from a business courier.
While inspecting a traveler from Guatemala, Customs officers found 6 pounds of cocaine in two hard brown bricks labeled as “Dulce de Panela,” a molasses-like brown candy made of unrefined sugar, and five packages of “Hilachas,” a beef soup.
Officials determined that the delivery man did not know what was inside the package, and was put on the next flight back to Guatemala. He was barred from returning to the U.S. for at least five years.
Last week, two Guatemalan couriers were found with 13 pounds of cocaine inside the double walls of cream and honey jars.
Custom officers at Dulles intercepted a little more than 50 pounds of cocaine in seven seizures last year.
