Fairfax County Police Chief David M. Rohrer has been appointed a deputy county executive.
In his new position, Rohrer will oversee the county’s police department, fire and rescue department, office of emergency management and department of public safety communications. He will also have a relationship with the sheriff’s office and the courts, according to information on the county’s website.
Rohrer will start the new job on Oct. 20 and receive an annual salary of $191,168.
He was appointed police chief in 2004 and has been with the department for almost 32 years.
Deputy County Executive Rob Stalzer, whose job currently includes overseeing public safety, will focus on planning, development and transportation.
