2 hurt in tractor trailor diesel spill on Capital Beltway

A tractor trailer with chicken nuggets in tow flipped onto its side Wednesday afternoon on the Capital Beltway, spilling diesel fuel.

The truck overturned on the outer loop of the Beltway near ramps for the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, according to Prince George’s Fire and EMS spokesman Mark Brady. Approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel has either spilled from the trailer’s saddle tanks or must be off-loaded from the truck, he said.

Two people were transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries, Brady said.

Hazmat units are on the scene for an extensive clean up. Maryland State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Two lanes were initially blocked by the crash, but more than an hour later one has reopened.
