A Howard County ice skating coach who competed in the Olympics was released from custody Monday on sex abuse charges.
Genrich Sretenski, 50, who competed for the former Soviet Union, faces charges of felony sexual abuse and child endangerment in New York.
Sretenski is also being sued in Prince George’s County for allegedly sexually abusing a girl he coached in Laurel. According to the New York lawsuit, Sretenski texted the girl before an event in Lake Place, N.Y., and had her come to her motel room where the skater claims the abuse occurred.
Sretenski’s attorney adamantly denied the charges.
A Maryland judge ruled Sretenski, who was born in Moscow, has 72 hours to report to authorities in New York.
In 1988, he and Natalia Annenko placed fourth in ice dancing at the Olympics in Calgary, Canada.
