Virginia traffic safety initiative results in thousands of summonses and arrests

A traffic-safety program on five interstates in Virginia on Saturday resulted in more than 3,000 summonses and arrests, police said.

In the 10-hour initiative, Virginia State Police troopers patrolled interstates 81, 95, 64, 66 and 85.

Citations issued by troopers included 1,460 for speeding, 455 for reckless driving and 103 for failured to wear a seat belt. Three motorists were arrested for drunk driving, and there were 11 felony and drug arrests, Virginia State Police said.
