A police officer shot a pit bull in Southeast D.C., police said.
The incident took place at about 7 a.m. this morning. Police went to the 1900 block of 17th Street SE after a 911 caller reported that a dog was running from yard to yard.
The pit bull was charging at a juvenile. To protect the youth, an officer fired her service weapon, striking the animal, police spokesman Officer Araz Alali said.
The dog is still alive, and the officer and the juvenile are uninjured.
