Gallery Place/Chinatown robber sentenced

A 50-year-old D.C. man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for a series of robberies of young women in the Gallery Place/Chinatown area.

Prosecutors said Winston Jackson focused on female patrons at restaurants, bars and cafes, and sometimes would ask the hosts to seat them next to his targets.

He would then wait patiently behind the patron, and used a jacket or bag to hide his action as he stole the victim’s wallet or purse, prosecutors said.

Because the victims were usually distracted, they did not immediately know they’re items had been stolen.

Jackson made thousands of dollars in purchases after each robbery.
