Convicted councilman’s vehicles for sale

Federal government is selling two vehicles seized from recently imprisoned former D.C. Councilman Harry Thomas Jr.’s home.

A filing in federal court last week states Thomas’ 2008 Victory Motorcycle and 2008 Chevy Tahoe SUV had been forfeited to the United States by order of the court.

Thomas, who is now serving a three-year, two-month sentence in an Alabama federal prison, admitted he purchased those vehicles using money he stole from the city government.

Pedestrian killed

A pedestrian was killed in Arlington when he was struck by a vehicle that didn’t stop at a traffic signal that was out.

Arlington County police say the crash occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Columbia Pike and Four Mile Run. Police say the pedestrian was crossing the road when he was hit.

The driver remained on the scene of the crash, and no charges have been filed yet.

Elderly woman dies in fire

A woman was killed after a fire at her Gambrills home, Anne Arundel County fire officials say.

Officials say firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on the 1300 block of Ferrara Drive after 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

A passer-by tried to alert the residents, but no one at the two-story duplex responded.

Firefighters found a woman, believed to be in her 70s, on the second floor. She was unconscious and unresponsive. She was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
