Graham’s former top aide pleads not guilty to bribery

D.C. Councilman Jim Graham’s former chief of staff pleaded not guilty to charges that he accepted more than $30,000 in bribes and services in return for his influence on legislation favorable to some members of the taxicab industry.

Loza was arrested in September and has since been indicted on bribery charges. Earlier this month, Ethiopian community leader and taxi industry advocate Abdul Kamus admitted to plying Loza with cash and free limo rides in return for Loza’s help in getting legislation passed.

Graham has not been charged with any crime and has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. Loza’s trial has been tentatively scheduled for October.
