Warrant obtained in attempted kidnapping at a Silver Spring McDonald’s

Montgomery County police said that they have obtained a warrant for a man suspected in an attempted kidnapping at a McDonald’s in Silver Spring.

The warrant charges 31-year-old Rodney Murrell, of Southeast D.C., with attempted kidnapping and second-degree assault, police said.

On Friday, a 13-year-old boy was waiting at the counter at the McDonald’s located at 8407 Colesville Road when a man entered the restaurant, grabbed the teenager from behind and tried to drag him outside. The suspect said he was police and that the boy was under arrest. The boy was released after a security guard intervened.

Sunday afternoon, D.C. police notified Montgomery County detectives that a man matching the suspect description was being treated at a medical facility in the District. Montgomery County detectives interviewed Murrell and obtained the warrant. The extradition process will start after he is cleared medically, police said.
