FBI Director Kash Patel announced the firing of agents who “weaponized law enforcement” against U.S. citizens after revelations from an investigation.

Patel announced the terminations one day after it was revealed that bureau surveillance efforts after the Jan. 6 riots had extended to tracking the movements of some Republican senators. Among the purges was the termination of the CR-15 squad, the FBI’s Washington field office’s public corruption unit that helped special counsel Jack Smith in his investigation into President Donald Trump.
