Declaring his candidacy for the U.S. Senate Tuesday evening, Republican Tom Cotton of Arkansas took on the charge that he isn’t experienced enough and went for the jugular.
“Some say I haven’t been in Washington long enough to run for the Senate, but I’ve been there long enough to know that Washington needs to change.” Cotton said.

Politico‘s coverage of the speech explained that,
Cotton sought to position himself as a populist of sorts, accusing Pryor of standing with “the Washington elites who want to run your life.” Noting that seven of the 10 wealthiest counties in the country are in the D.C. region, Cotton decried the “corrupt game” and the “crony capitalists” who suckle at the teat of federal power.
(Note that little, supercilious “of sorts.”)
Cotton can can expect more–much more–of that…and worse. Unlike its paper of record, Washington, the city, will not go quietly.
