Wash Post pledge: Digging into Hillary Clinton too, not just Trump

The Washington Post, which top editor Bob Woodward said has “20 people working on Trump,” is also digging hard on Hillary Rodham Clinton, with plans for a “major series” on her life in addition to coverage of the Republican and a Donald Trump book.

“All of these efforts are aimed at revealing everything we possibly can about both candidates so that voters are as well informed as possible. The Post is also rolling out a major series of stories on the life and career of Hillary Clinton, in addition to the extensive coverage we already have published,” Kristine Coratti Kelly, vice president for communications & events, said.

The paper said that the same team of reporters covering Trump that Woodward mentioned is also covering Clinton. “For our campaign coverage, we have had a dedicated team investigating all of the presidential candidates since late 2014. Over the past several months, that team has focused most of its time on the two dominant stories of this campaign — Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Currently, the same people cover both on rotation,” she explained.

Criticism from Trump supporters was directed at the Post after Secrets wrote up Woodward’s comments in a Wednesday speech to the National Association of Realtors. The Drudge Report picked up that story, giving it wide circulation.

The Trump book will be co-authored by prize-winning reporter Michael Kranish, who did a similar project in 2012 on GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

The Post reached out to say that it is giving equal time to Clinton, who has been in the public eye since she was first lady of Arkansas.

However, because Trump’s background is less known, the paper is assigning reporters to check him out and to help political investigative reporter Michael Kranish and senior editor Marc Fisher write the Trump book, to be published by Scribner.

The prize-winning Kranish did the same thing in 2012, co-writing the Boston Globe’s book on Mitt Romney, and in 2004 co-authoring a book on Democratic nominee John Kerry. Both were considered authoritative campaign biographies.

Kranish did a similar book on 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry.

“Because Trump’s involvement in political life is far more limited, the Post newsroom decided to embark on a book as a special project. In order to complete the book in a timely fashion, reporters from throughout the newsroom have been assigned to work for a brief period on particular aspects of his life and career,” said the Post.

“Trump Revealed” is due out August 23, 2016.
