Washington has a new title: “Gayest City In America.”
The Advocate, a national gay magazine, put the nation’s capital at the top of its list, reasoning that it has more gay elected officials, “gay-friendly neighborhoods” and “hunky young” politicians like Reps. Paul Ryan and Aaron Schock to look at.
“It’s not all piano bars, gender-specific music festivals, and giant disco houses (although we all love some of those things) that make these cities the gayest in America,” said the Advocate, a long-established media outlet.
“Wouldn’t every city be better if it were just a bit gayer?” the magazine added.
Nearby Arlington, Va., came in 10th.
To make the list, the magazine expanded its criteria to include politics and social life. For example, a gay elected official gave a city a point, as did holding a gay rodeo, having a gay bar or a women’s college.
