Washington’s mayor is warning that the federally-owned Memorial Bridge to Arlington National Cemetery is in such disrepair that it “could literally fall into the Potomac” River.
In a speech during which she ordered the GOP Congress and President Trump “to keep your hands off D.C.,” Muriel Bowser demanded that the federal government fix “their bridge,” which is a key crossing between Virginia and the District.
“We call on the Congress and president to repair and replace their bridge across the Potomac River. The Memorial Bridge, without immediate help, could literally fall into the Potomac,” she said.

In addition, she moved to enlist Trump’s help in bringing back the Washington Redskins. The team plays in nearby Landover, Maryland.
At issue is the 190 acre park that houses the team’s old RFK stadium that the city wants control of. She asked Trump and Congress to give it to D.C. for a new mixed-use plan that includes a new stadium.
The reference to a stadium appeared to be her latest bow to the team whose name she has vowed to scrub from sports history. The team has threatened to build a new stadium in Virginia if the city and Bowser continue their war on the Redskins name, seen by Bowser and some others as a term offensive to native Americans.
However, her call for a new stadium in her Thursday night State of the District address prompted team fans to notice that she recently tweeted a reference to the team name and it’s fight song, Hail to the Redskins.
