It’s no wonder that so much of the public distrusts the establishment media when top media people cheat knowing their subjects are taping them doing so.
Case in point: Piers Morgan’s outrageously deceptive promotional spots deliberately misrepresenting how former President Donald Trump ended Morgan’s interview with him. As Washington Examiner Deputy News Editor Daniel Chaitin detailed late last week, Morgan spliced different parts of the interview together to make it appear as if Trump furiously cut short the interview because he didn’t like Morgan’s questions about the 2020 election. Instead, the interview ended rather amicably after Trump gave Morgan more than an hour in excess of the scheduled interview time.
The final topic had nothing to do with Trump’s false claims that the election was stolen but rather was about a recent hole-in-one Trump hit in golf. Morgan congratulated him on the feat, and Trump thanked him.
It was anything but the dramatically “explosive” situation that Morgan’s promo portrayed and certainly did not involve rudeness or defensiveness by Trump.
Trump’s team was obviously taping the interview, so Morgan and his compatriots knew their dishonesty could be revealed. Not only did they push their false promo anyway, but Morgan defiantly mocked Trump even after Trump released the audiotape proving Morgan’s deception. This is brazen hackery from Morgan of the sort that should earn permanent eviction from the ranks of even semirespectable journalism.
Alas, Morgan’s behavior here is far from unusual. Almost everywhere ordinary readers and viewers turn, they see bias and flimflam replacing honest reporting. It is apparent in what they report that turns out not to be so and in what they refuse to report no matter how solid the story is — if, of course, the story doesn’t advance the media’s liberal narrative. Witness, for example, not just the establishment media’s burial of the original story about presidential son Hunter Biden’s embarrassing (and possibly incriminating) laptop computer but its continuing refusal to report new details from it that cast a bad light on President Joe Biden.
Not only is the establishment media not an admirable profession, but it’s not even an honorable trade. It’s just a racket, and it’s sickening.
