Michael Bloomberg isn’t likely to win over any Trump voters.
Bloomberg’s campaign continued its $4 million advertising spree with a series of billboards in Phoenix, where President Trump held a rally this week. They read like insults from the playground: “Donald Trump eats burnt steak,” one declares. “Mike Bloomberg likes his medium rare.”
A true man of the people.
Comparing billionaires’ taste in steak seems like an odd tactic, but Bloomberg is just trying to beat Trump at his own trollish game. The problem is that Trump supporters don’t care if he eats burnt steak and loves fast food and helps himself to two scoops of ice cream. Trump’s manners, or lack thereof, have proven to be the least of anyone’s worries.

Other Bloomberg billboards continue to poke fun at Trump, with one reading: “Donald Trump’s wall fell over.” Trump’s critics had a field day last month when portions of a newly constructed border wall were pushed over by the wind. But it wasn’t the instance of sweet irony that they wanted; the sections that fell over hadn’t actually been anchored yet.
So far, Bloomberg is 0 for 2.

Another billboard reads, “Donald Trump cheats at golf. Mike Bloomberg doesn’t.” Again, Trump’s personal failings haven’t been a turnoff for voters before, as sad as that is. And the fact that Bloomberg and Trump have gone golfing together at the Trump National Golf Club is more of an indictment of Bloomberg, who is trying desperately to separate himself from his Republican and cozy-with-Trump past.
Bloomberg: 0. Trump: 3.
That being said, the casual observer won’t know the backstories behind these billboards, and those who have never been Trump supporters will likely appreciate the troll move. Bloomberg just isn’t likely to win anyone over with this campaign, which is fine because he’s losing to Bernie Sanders anyway.
