Democratic governors and candidates needed to brainstorm a way to show voters that they know how to run states competently. So where did they hold this critical strategy meeting and fundraiser?

None other than the free state of Florida.

As Democratic governors try to convince voters to forgive them for two years of COVID-19 restrictions and for President Joe Biden’s failures, even they couldn’t resist the allure of DeSantis Land. In his first term as governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis vaulted himself into presidential discussions thanks largely to his science-driven response to COVID-19, keeping schools open and focusing on protecting the elderly.

Florida has become such an attractive destination that Democratic politicians made it a stop during the pandemic, even while they advocated restrictions back home. That list
includes
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rep. Eric Swalwell of California, and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Democratic politicians aren’t the only ones flocking to Florida. The Sunshine State was one of the top 10 states for inbound
migration
in 2021, while Democratic bastions California, Hawaii, Illinois, and New York were in the bottom four.

Perhaps Democrats just wanted to examine DeSantis’s achievements. After all, he went from a narrow 2018 victory in what was considered a swing state to not even being on the Democratic Governors Association’s target list for this year’s elections. Florida is thriving, and even Democrats don’t think they can take a big swing at flipping it.

They say that people vote with their feet. It seems even Democratic governors have given DeSantis their vote of approval.
