Rachel Levine is not the first female anything

Last week, Dr. Rachel Levine, assistant secretary for health, was appointed an admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. The promotion was lauded by liberal Democrats throughout the country. Additionally, Levine was celebrated as both the first openly transgender four-star officer and the first female four-star admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

This is an affront to women everywhere. Levine is transgender, not female.

“I am humbled to serve as the first female four-star officer of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and first openly transgender four-star officer across any of the eight uniformed services,” Levine said, deploying the standard misuse of “humbled.”

Levine, who was born and remains male by sex, lived as Richard Levine for decades, then decided he wanted to be Rachel. How Levine chooses to live is a private decision, but that private decision does not change reality or oblige anyone to pretend that what is false is true.

Aside from this principle, consider some practical matters — for example, feminist grievances about the glass ceiling and unequal pay. It has been claimed (mostly erroneously) for years that women unfairly make less money than men — the figure often cited is 79 cents on the dollar. Is Levine on both sides of this statistic, having contributed for 53 years to the patriarchy’s finances before becoming marginalized and oppressed in 2011?

Being female is more than just a word. It is not a “social construct,” as is so often claimed. It is science — that thing the Left pretends to believe in. The vast biological and other differences between men and women do not change because Richard wanted to become Rachel.

What is the message Levine’s boasted promotion sends to women? It lets them know that men will game the system to deny women opportunities and will be aided in doing so by the Democratic president and his party.

Why should my two sisters lose opportunities because some men want to be women? Why do my nieces have to live in a future in which they are denied advancement because some men want to be women? Why do some of my closest female friends and their daughters have to live in a country in which their livelihoods and their safety (see Loudoun County) are threatened to accommodate the small portion of the population suffering from a medical condition known as gender dysphoria? Why must women endure a toxic reclassification of humanity that deprives them of their natural and congenital femininity to accommodate a fringe element of society?

Men are men. Women are women. Transgender people are transgender people. The rest is toxic, radical, leftist bullying leading to the moral decay of the United States.
