Chuck Todd on midterms: ‘This is a wave’

NBC News’ Chuck Todd declared late Tuesday night that the 2014 midterms have officially turned into an electoral “wave” of victories for the Republican Party.

“This is a wave tonight. Let’s not beat around the bush,” the “Meet the Press” host said. “This is a wave. This is a big win. They could get up to nine [U.S. Senate] seats. I think, when you look at it, that’s big.”

Referencing the gubernatorial races in Maryland and Wisconsin, Todd said that the GOP has enjoyed an immense amount of momentum all throughout the Nov. 4 elections.

“This was clearly Republican momentum at the end. They’re going to have the largest house majority since World War II. Maybe they find another seat and it’s the largest number of Republicans in the House of Representatives since 1928,” he said.

“I don’t know what else you want to come up to with the definition of wave,” he said, adding later, “There’s no [other] way to slice this.”

Republicans picked up Senate seats in Montana, South Dakota, Colorado, Georgia, West Virginia and Arkansas, handing them control of the U.S. Senate and wresting control from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.
