Dipping into Tony Blair’s just published A Journey leads me toward the conclusion that Matthew D’Ancona articulates with great clarity in the Sunday Telegraph. Blair is really more New than Labour, more determined to use force to moral ends than most center-left politicians, animated more by religious conviction than most of his countrymen ever realized. I remember that D’Ancona had a terrific piece on Blair’s religion in the runup to his first national victory in the 1997 election.
