Only Obama can question someone’s patriotism

I’ll be honest with you, Savannah, I think the American people are tired of the politics where, if you and I don’t agree on something, I question your love of country and your patriotism. That’s not going to put anybody back to work. … We ought to be able to have honest, political debates in this country about very different visions and about very different ways in which we see this country moving without questioning people’s patriotism and love for country.

There is nothing that we’re facing that we can’t solve with some spirit of America first; a willingness to say, we’re going to choose party — we’re going to choose country over party, we’re going to choose the next generation over the next election. …. But I’m going to need your help to make it happen. You’ve got to send a message to Washington that it’s time for the games to stop. It’s time to put country first.

See, the problem we have is not with our country; the problem is that our politics is broken. The problem is, is that we’ve got the kind of partisan brinksmanship that is willing to put party ahead of country, that’s more interested in seeing their political opponents lose than seeing the country win.

I need you to send a message to your members of Congress, to your representatives that we’re tired of the games. We’re tired of the posturing. We don’t want more press releases. We want action. We want everybody to work together and stop drawing lines in the sand and saying, we’re so rigid, we’re not going to do this or we’re not going to do that, no matter what. Think about country ahead of party.
