According to a House GOP leadership staffer, Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, will soon name Reps. Fred Upton, R-Mich., Dave Camp, R-Mich., and Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, to be the three House Republican representatives on the 12 person debt reduciton committee. Hensarling will serve as co-chair along side Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s, D-Nev., co-chair choice, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash.
Reid also named Sens. Max Baucus, D-Mont., and John Kerry, D-Mass., to the debt reduction committee yesteerday.
Baucus, who has pushed for Medicaid cuts and a repeal of the CLASS Act is seen as a possible seventh vote for a Republican plan to make it out of the committee. Conservatives are most worried that Upton, who voted with Democrats to ban incandescant lightbulbs, would be the most likely seventh vote for a Democratic debt plan.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has yet to name her representatives.
UPDATE: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has reportedely named Sens. Jon Kyl, R-Ari., Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Rob Portman, R-Ohio, to represent Senate Republicans.
