In tonight’s debate, Republican candidates Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney will smash Rick Perry for suggesting that Social Security is a “monstrous lie” and a “Ponzi scheme” both in his book, and on the stage in last Thursday’s debate.
Look for Perry tonight to point out that his Republican rivals actually agree with him in spite of their grandstanding.

“It’s a tremendous fraud,” Michele Bachmann told Fox Business host David Asman in May 2011, and Mitt Romney wrote in his 2010 book, No Apology, “[T]he American people have been effectively defrauded out of their Social Security.”
“For too long, politicians have been afraid to speak honestly about Social Security. We must have the guts to talk about its financial condition if we are to fix Social Security and make it financially viable for generations to come.” Perry wrote in a USA Today op-ed this morning, fleshing out his position on the program.
Look for Ron Paul to remind voters that he was the original unabashed critic of Social Security and that he is surrounded by frauds.
